I've looked at greatschools.net, and it seems reviews are mixed on Huntersville Elementary although the scores seem good. Does anyone have children enrolled there that can offer some more insight? Also, how is Bailey Road Middle School turning out?

We are still considering Huntersville as we love Monteith Park, but it seems school-wise we are drawn to Ballantyne / South Charlotte (Providence Road area) as the schools there seem consistently good. Am I missing something?

I would be working uptown so the commute seems about the same. Is Providence Road a nightmare in the mornings?

Decisions, decisions...

Thanks!!

GT

I don't have kids in either school, sorry.. My kids go to Torrence Creek and Bradley middle and they both love the schools. Bailey Middle is a beautiful school though.

My neighbors kids go there they seem to be pleased. Its a new school that opened there this year. My son goes to J.V. Washam and we are pleased so far. Great communications to the parents.

Monteith Park is nice! Let me know if I can be of any help.

Thanks for the input. Glad to hear the new school is good... new is not always better!

I know 3 people leaving JV Washam and we will be next. New does not equal good, except for not being over crowded. I don't like the fact that schoolwork is being forced down my daughter's throat in kindergarten..it is ridiculous at how much they are forcing these kids to do at such an early age..it is sad..the principal is a big instigator in this (she used the words rigurous cirriculum for 1st graders!) I do like our teacher though..my daughter is advanced and she has talked to the gifted teacher to get her extra work. On the other hand there was a teacher who was let go because she wouldn't conform to the cirriculum (it is scripted)

There are definetly mixed feelings about Huntersville..one friend of mine loves it and anothers son watched tv 40+ times in kindergarten and over 30 in 1st grade..not educational tv but cartoons like Clifford and Arthur..it is used as a fill in.

The start times are also awful!!! My 5 year old shouldn't have to get up at 6:20am!!!

My son is in J.V Washam and we are happy. He too is in Kindergarten. I do agree with you on the start time. As for the others part I am pleased with what he is learning etc. He seems to enjoy it along with his classmates and teachers.

I also think the new superintendent is doing a good job of getting CMS back on track. Its a tough job and will not be completed overnight but you have ot start somewhere right?

What time does J V Washam begin in the mornings?

Is there a philosophy around early start and finish times for schooling? We're not accustomed to this at all.

Thanks!

Thanks. At least all the schools don't start this early! 9am and onward is more my speed (like Winget Park, for example).

It does seem a little early especially during the winter. But the afternoons more than make up for it.
