I think we should add a 3 cent tax for education to liquor plus a 3 cent tax that goes for transit. So I propose a six cent tax on liquor.
Good question Ani!!!! I honestly haven't thought about it. To my knowledge, the current tax is added to everything that is subject to a sales tax in Mecklenburg county, but I could be wrong.

I personally think groceries should be excluded and Liquor should be greater than retail. I also think higher fines for drunk drivers could go towards transit as well. There are many ways to help fund transit I think.

Many communites already have a full penny tax (Denver, Dallas, Houston too I think) all have full pennies.

Oh and BTW, HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! And don't be one of those caught drinking on the train this year!!!

Happy New Year's. I have read in other threads about the success of the Lynx line. I think the 1% tax would speed things up as far as development and help Charlotte in becoming a better city for business.

I fail to see any immorality in extinguishing car fumes by using the ecological friendly rail service. This is a benefit for us, our children, and future generations. We must consider others and look into the future. People will keep coming here and traffic will only get worse.

It's the same thing as the principal behind free public education that we all have to pay taxes for - society as a whole benefits so why shouldn't the whole society help pay for it, even if you don't have kids or your kids are grown?
I consider myself a libertarian and I support such a tax. It isn't reasonable to place a label on someone based on his/her view. It is like calling supporters of Obama, true anarcists.
