Starting to look at kindergarten for next year. Does anyone have personal experience with Socrates Academy in Matthews? Do they have regular Music, Art, and PE, as a regular public school would? I've searched the threads here, looked at their website, and done the greatschools.net thing, but I was hoping someone on here would know something directly. Thanks from an anxious mom!

I have a friend that sends her son there. Just to give you some background, her husband is on the Char-Meck school board of ed and she's the most well informed, well educated woman I have ever come across. Her son is an over-achiever and she is very happy with the school.
That's good to hear! Do you know if they do regular "specials," like PE, Music, and Art, like a classic elementary? I had heard indirectly that they didn't really do those things.
I'm not sure, but I can't imagine them not doing that. You can always call the school directly and ask.
I know that many schools have open houses where they welcome new families to come in and ask questions and such. Try calling and finding out when they'll be having theirs.
I do know that learning Greek is a requirement though.
Hello- My child is a 1st grader and Kindergarten graduate. We love Socrates! Parent involvement is expected and you can have lunch with your child anytime. Yes, they have PE, art and Music. Students also learn Greek which is a bonus since it is the root of most language. They have an amazing math program which emphasizes the use of hands-on manipulatives. Their class sizes cap at 20 thoughout the school and kindergarten and 1st have full time asst. We feel that we are receiving a private education with our tax dollars. We couldn't be happier. FYI- I'm a former CMS teacher. Good luck!!
Just to note there is no cafeteria, bus service, or a gym there. They do offer afterschool activities (for reasonable fees) like dance class, karate class, soccer, and some clubs like the student newspaper, chess club etc.
Thanks for all the input! There are so many choices in the city; it helps to have some personal experiences to make an informed decision. I really appreciate it.
