Looking for input on the Y, specifically Siskey Y. I have a 5 yr. old, 7 yr. old and a 1 year old, and will be moving to Matthews, Weddington Ridge, mid February (soon!). The Siskey Y looks absolutely beautiful, and am considering joining.
My 5 and 7 year old are pretty active with activities, dance, soccer, tee-ball, swim team, flag football. My 7 year old wants to try everything!
Through my online searches I discovered the MARA organization, with tee ball and coach pitch leagues now registering. Any feedback on this group? The Y will also offer a youth baseball program.
Not sure if I want to do the Y if we are involved with town/rec sports>? Any opinions?

It all depends on the individual child. MARA is a great organization, but more competitive in nature. If your child is not a "natural" athelete or is a bit less interested in really winning, they might feel out of place by the time they reach the 8-10 year old groups. The Y programs are a lot less stressful, to me, because everyone plays and the emphasis is on learning the game AND having a good time. MARA teams are well coached and go on to many tournements every year - but they are definitely not the place for every kid. Hope this helps?

Thanks, I appreciate all of the helpful info I have received here.
Still not sure what I want to do, the Y is pricey, then each activity is also a seperate fee, but the MARA sports are very pricey, 185 for coach pitch, and 150 for tee ball. I have to decide how much we will use the Y to make the monthly fee worth it for us.

Thanks again, I'll be back with more questions.

For what the Y offers I don't think it is too bad... They also have a subsidizing program if you qualify and they said they have a lot of ppl tha tuse it.

ummm...Felicia, I'm thinking YOU need to make a call to get your boy signed up at either the YMCA or MARA - I don't think anybody here is going to call you okay?

felicia, if I were you, I'd ask the moderator to edit out your phone number. Posting your phone number online is not safe.
