We have lived in Ft. Mill for 17 years and are ready to get out of the suburbs! We'd like to get a townhome closer to the city and have an opportunity to purchase one in Southpark, near Philips Place. While we are very familiar with all the different areas in Charlotte, we're wondering if anyone has insight into living in Southpark. We are in our late 50s, almost empty nesters and want to be able to walk and bike places. I like the idea of being close to one of the greenways. I'm just wondering if there might be a better option for us than Southpark; an area that has all the amenities (restaurants, shopping) but also access to the green space? South End is out- I love it but it also makes me feel very old since everyone seems to be in their 20s!
Southpark is great. Only negative i can think of is the traffic..... Kinds crazy over there......

Most areas in south Clt are walkable. Whether people choose to walk or not is another issue. Dilworth and Elizabeth are probably better for taking long walks through the neighborhoods. Southpark has unusually narrow sidewalks and speeding traffic all around, but there are more amenities if that is important. Both places are great. Based on age, I would say that Southend is mostly suitable for those 20-40, Southpark, 30-60, Dilworth, 30-no limit.
Louisburg Square would be up there on my list of South Park townhomes to highly consider. Incredibly convenient to tons of stuff, gated, nice interiors (the kitchens are a bit small but most of them have nice outdoor spaces) and most have primary suites on both floors. Fantastic units.
I’d also consider Philips Gate, a little more affordable but nicely equipped and great location.
As others have mentioned, Dilworth (especially if you can find something near the Harris Teeter at Kenilworth) would be a wonderfully convenient and a little more quaint option…Dilworth just feels relaxing to me. Same for Elizabeth if you can find something close to Presbyterian for the walkability and access to the gold line. Really lots of it depends on budget, of course. But those are fantastic options.
Thanks. I'm looking at it as if money is no object (husband would have different answer!) and going from there. Also I just looked up those townhomes and they are right down from where we are looking (new build) but the new townhomes don't seem to have any yard space.
How does everyone feel about Davidson? It seems walkable, bikeable and close to amenities.
Great area. You get the benefits of a small town feel, while still being in a populated metro area. The main downside is traffic on I-77 to go back and forth between the communities in the lake region + getting into Charlotte.
I'm a big fan of Southpark, although, as others have said, Dilworth is friendly, walkable, and close to CLT's attractions.
