So in May 7th-12th Me and my Wife will travel to Montreal from Houston. We have a layover to Montreal and back to Houston. One layover is 9 hours and the other layover is 12 hours. Surely both times will be enough to explore Charlotte for a little bit. I was wondering what can we do in that time span without spending a ton of money and relying solely on ubers and lyfts? Thanks in advance!

You could go to the US National Whitewater Center which is pretty close to the airport: https://usnwc.org/

Other options are breweries in the South End neighborhood and using the light rail to also check out Uptown and South End, restaurants and exploring Uptown, dining on Lake Norman, et.

What time of day? What kinds of things are you interested in?

Going to Uptown (downtown) would be good...lots of restaurants, museums, maybe a Knights baseball game if the timing is right.

So the 9hr layover is from 11:00am-7:30pm and the 12hr flyover is 10:00am-10:00pm. And we like to go to local restaurants/museums/ sights and sounds of the city. We’re a 30 something year African American couple so aside from the general sightseeing we would like to maybe find some spaces that cater to AA’s. Maybe a coffe shop or something along that nature. A nice hip neighborhood with some quirky shops, etc. Maybe even some quick recreational activity.

The uptown areas around the BBT ballpark really a cool area. great rest. and bars. Walkable.

Need cab or Uber/lyft from CLT.

For recreation, the aforementioned Whitewater Center would be good. In Uptown, you might enjoy the Harvey Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture, The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and the Levine Museum of the New South.

I recommend the NASCAR Hall of Fame, if you like racing.

Didn’t realize you were a NASCAR fan.

The US National White Water Center has a place to eat and has some trails and is nice.

I am not a racing fan, but the world headquarters of NASCAR is in Charlotte, and some folks would find that interesting.

Thanks for the suggestions! These really come in handy for the time we'll be in town. What's some good restaurants in Uptown and South End that yall would recommend us to check out?
