I currently live in apartment near university area.. am 24 year male and am looking to buy a house somewhere within a decent commute to uptown. Most of communities I have seen so far tend to be very homogeneous in terms of the race of people living there. I would prefer a community where there's a balanced number of African-Americans, White Americans and other minorities.. seem like that's a really difficult thing to find. Any suggestions?

A bit too far from uptown... Any suggestions within the 485 loop within this price range?

Do you care about resale? Crime?

Crime should be reasonable.. resale not at this time.. would be nice to have a rent option if I chose to move to a different city in future.

Check out Westchester, Coulwood, Idlewild South and Idlewild Farms, Pawtuckett, Lincoln Heights, Yorkmount.

If resale and crime were important I would have a different list.

Thank you I will look at those. If you dont mind me asking, what would you recommend if crime was important? Resale is not important in next few years as far as the area is easily rent-able.

How do you feel about the University area OP? It's the most diverse area in Charlotte IMO. The Settlements at Withrow Downs is a nice neighborhood in that area (although outside 485). Inside 485 Winchester or Davis Lake could be possibilities. In other areas a couple others that come to mind (although all but one are also outside 485 but not by much) are Bradfield Farms (East Charlotte near Mint Hill), Farmwood (Mint Hill), Wedgewood North (N Charlotte near Huntersville), and Riverbend (NW Charlotte).

Although of course these days most decent houses unless really small will be at the top of that price range.

Most neighborhoods off Back Creek Church Road in University City area are diverse, in that price range, good leasing potential, inside the 485 corridor.
