We are a family of 4 who are considering moving to Huntersville, NC from Long Island, NY. Don't know much about property taxes/cost of living in NC. In this area of NY we are very burdened by property taxes, for a SMALL home and property we are paying over $6,000 a year and feel like we are being strangled by the hustle and bustle. Need to also know about the school district.....any help would be appreciated....thanks

I live in Huntersville. I'm not a realtor, so I won't answer real-estate related questions, but if you have any other general questions, I might be able to help.

Just to get started, you might want to search for the many topics that are already here concerning Huntersville. Maybe your questions have already been covered.

We bought a 1700 sq ft home in Birkdale Village in Huntersville. We wanted to downsize after leaving the rust belt behind. Left a 2800 sq ft 2.5 acre home in western Pa. Taxes $2000 here compared to $4500 in Pa. Utilities and groceries slightly higher here but everything(buildings, roads, bridges)is new and shining. Home prices are much more affordable also. Weather in winter much nicer. The northeast needs to be rebuilt and I feel taxes will continue to climb. Maybe because "everyone" is leaving.

I also live in huntersville and property taxes are based on the value of your home. On a $300,000 home (which can get you bertween 2500 and 3000 sq feet on a 1.3 acre in a nice neighborhood right now) it would be about $3600 a year. 1.2% I believe for 2008.

Schools are average in Huntersville, South Charlotte is a bit better and Mooresville, but you lose some things going that far out.
