A much more stable aircraft than the 172 for sure; additional benefit of Monroe Bypass construction is providing area pilots an excellent smooth dirt emergency landing site in case of problems! I wonder what negative effects the bypass will have on the 74 Monroe businesses. Will it go like the parts of Independence that turned limited access? Sadly, I probably won't think twice about it as I drive 70 towards OIB....

It's only a matter of time before the Monroe Walmart gets abandoned in favor of one at an exit off the bypass.

I think the current US 74 will be fine. Most of the population in Union is more along US 74, and westward towards Weddington and Waxhaw. If new development does happen along the new bypass, it will be from a new burst in population in eastern Union, which is currently mostly rural farmland.

Unlikely. The current US 74 was a new alignment to the former one (now Monroe Road/John St./Old Charlotte Road). The biggest mistake Union County did was allowing commercial development on the new route, and not on the old. The new bypass is being built as a freeway, and as a toll road, so there shouldn't be any reason for more bypasses in Union. The same is happening in Cleveland County, with the Shelby bypass.
