Looking to relocate to North Carolina but researching different areas. Was originally looking to Lake Norman-but don't want to deal with traffic congestion. Schools are first priority. Would like to be somewhat close to Lowes Motor Speedway and shopping yet have a new house on a decent size lot. I heard Waxhaw is considered "the sticks"?
Well Waxhaw isn't anywhere near Lowes Speedway. However, it's a great little community. I certainly wouldn't refer to it as "the sticks" as everything is developing at a very quick rate between there and Charlotte proper. If your job is nearby....it's a must to visit and put on your list.

I think the people of beautiful little Waxhaw wish they could be in the sticks - not much chance of that anymore now that Charlotte has grown out to meet it. Still, it is a lovely area, especially the quaint little downtown. It is not near the race track at all, but you could probably get there in about 40 minutes.
It truly depends where in Waxhaw you live. My mailing address is Waxhaw, but I am less then 2 miles from the South Charlotte border and about 20 minutes from the town of Waxhaw. For sure there are some more rural areas with a Waxhaw address, but there are also subdivisions and more suburban areas as well.
I appreciate the responses on Waxhaw-seems like you can have the best of both worlds there. Would like to have that community feel with kids playing yet not so remote. Looking forward to visiting soon.

There are many communities in Waxhaw to check out. I live in Lawson and there are tons of kids playing in the street. The schools are good and they are building 3 new school less than 1 mile from lawson so your kids would not get transfered from one scholl to another which is nice...
I agree with most of the replies above. Moderator cut: tos violation . We love it here. But the Waxhaw DOES encompass a huge area. North to south, you could probably travel 45 minutes and still be in Waxhaw. The north part is just south of SOuth Charlotte, Ballantyne, etc....very convenient to everything. Schools are tremendous, property values are doing well, too. Union County is the fastest growing county in NC, and one of the fastest growing in the country. Lots of horse farms, very rural, yet close to everything. Moderator cut: tos violation
My brother in law is one of the top teachers at Parkwood H.S. Recognized for a creative way of teaching History and Social Studies. His wife is a great teacher at the Waxhaw Elementary school.
We live in some of the prettiest sticks around. and 10 minutes from Waxhaw. We moved from busy Anaheim, Calif. and are loving it. Lot's of caring people and fun groups and many Churches.
