We will be moving to the area in June. We have senior in high school and a 6th grader. They are coming from relatively small schools and we are looking for a good fit for the high schooler who is an accomplished bass player. Any ideas for a good high school that caters to music? We can live anywhere within a decent commute to the airport.

My wife is a facilitator in CMS. She suggested the magnet schools:

Northwest School of the Arts (grades 6-12)
A continuation of the elementary arts schools, NWSA provides a unique sequential (7 consecutive years,
grades 6-12) secondary education that includes rigorous, intensive instruction in the visual and performing
arts at a pre-professional level. Please note, the electives programs at NWSA are exclusive to the arts and CTE areas. Athletic programs and marching bands are not offered on site.

Here's the info for all of the Magnet Schools in CMS — CMS Magnet Schools

Hope this helps.

You mentioned you might be looking into Lake Wylie and Clover High School is an excellent school and they have a great music program. Clover HS would be your child's HS should you move to LW.

Thank you for the information on Clover HS - by the web site it was difficult to tell much about the music program. I will be contacting the school when we go on a house hunting trip in March.

Clover a nice area (if your into horses/land) but it's nowhere near close to a "decent commute to the airport". Just my .02

Here is the new high school in Cramerton. It will have everything you need. Heck it's nicer than a lot of small colleges lol

This is a great school but not an option for the OP b/c they have not moved yet and had to be registered with CMS last December to qualify for this 2014-15 year's lottery. Will work for next year if they go into CMS.

Thank you for the information. I hadnt really considered Gaston County - we also have a boy going into 6th grade - do you know much about the middle schools? It looks like Kings Mountain has an intermediate school and I have been struggling with my 6th grader entering middle school while also being the "new kid on campus".
