This is my first time posting on this forum. I am posting in hopes that someone could provide any advice or information about a safe, affordable place to live near Uptown Charlotte. I have lived in Charlotte for nearly 4 years. I have always lived in the Ballantyne area. However, I have recently accepted a promising position with a company Uptown and need to move much closer to the area due to my demanding schedule.
I am a single, blonde/Caucasian female aged 24 so safety is of the up most importance to me. I am looking to pay no more than $700. I know this pretty low considering Uptown, but are there any places that are close to Uptown that are definitely safe and a good part of town? I am looking right now at "Links @ Citiside" apartments.

Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.
Being that safety is of the utmost importance to you, I'd seriously consider trying to find a roomate. $700/month won't get you anything in uptown that's "safe". However, $1,400/month (with the help of your roomate's half) open up SEVERAL options.
Kind of agree with Wanderer - I'm pretty sure safety is a priority for mostly everyone, regardless of demographics.
That said, I'd look at some of the new apartment buildings in South End. They may be out of your range, but it's close to Uptown and on the light rail.
I have lived in 4th ward for close to two years. With your budget, have you considered finding a room mate? I rent a 2 bedroom condo that costs 1250/month. Typically you are looking at between 600-800 per bedroom in uptown. There are a few one bedroom condos where I live, but none are available. Those go from between 800-1000 per month.
Keep your eyes open, as there are always available condos in uptown. One thing to note about uptown.....it is a densely populated area with more petty crime than most areas. When I say petty crime, I mean car break ins and junk like that. You should also have safe parking where you look. Try to avoid having to park your car in the street, and if that is not an option, make sure nothing valuable is visible in your car.
I agree with everyone else. Heck I'm renting a 1 BR for $800 a month and I'm nowhere near uptown. You've got to compromise somewhere, whether in budget, location, or by accepting a roommate.

I gotta ask. Does being blond and Caucasian somehow make you more vulnerable? Would things be different if you were a brunette?
All people are concerned about safety and want safe places to live.
You'll need to pay more than $700 to get a place in Uptown.
I've been apartment hunting for the last month or so. I can tell you that you won't find a place in uptown for $700 a month unless you get a roommate. The low end places you can find one for $1000+. Like the other posters said, will have to compromise somewhere.
