You are just trying to pick a fight, Felt.

I am all for diversity and you know that. I support gay rights, ADA, women's rights, and the promotion of all people based on their skill set and ability to perform in whatever career they choose. I have even actively worked for workplace accommodations for folks with behavioral mental health issues and for return to work programs for drug offenders.

I don't need you to tell me a thing about "how it feels."

I took MLK's dream to be mine, but it seems the black community feels the rest of us who have been waging the same recognition battle have somehow co-opted an exclusuvely black struggle.

All I have ever wanted is a fair shake, not a GIMME.

The black community acts like they are the only folks who have earned a right at The Table. I fully acknowledge that diversity is more than race.

I agree.... people are acting like this is the first time something like this has happened in politics. Well, I guess it is since Obama is the first black, half black, kenyan, socialist, community organizer... lol.

It's politics as usual... so I can see someone getting angry over that aspect but racism? meh...

you bash me for telling you how it feels then turn around and tell me how the black community feels?

That's EXACTLY my point.

Funny how you can defend Mrs. Dole... but God forbid I defend my stance when people are running in screaming racism over ONE FREAKING nomination. Especially when there are years and years of nominations based on favors and handshakes in politics.

..and yes, I do need to tell you how it feels when you turn around and tell me how the black community (which I'm a part of) feels.

In your own words, wooooosh!!

Let me get this correct. You are white living in a black community contending that whites living in predominately white neighborhoods don't know what they are talking about? couldn't it be that whites that live with whites might know more about what whites think that a white that lives with blacks? Just a thought. Seriously, I believe somebody must have sold you a really outdated city map.

There is a disconnect somewhere and I believe it might lead your way. Bless your heart!

First they slam Obama for a lack of diversity... then after Foxx it's racism. LOL...

...and if Foxx got this for the DNC then good for him. It was a great event and made the city, Dems and the President look great. When Obama leaves office and another white person takes over (it might be Hillary, that's sexist) and they do the same exact thing no one will cry foul because white NEVER give jobs due to race or favors. LOL
Geroge Bush didn't. Remember? He might not have been the best president, but he was a leader in diversity in his cabinet. Compare him with Obama.

I'm pretty sure Foxx grew up poor in West Charlotte. Went to Garringer I think! He didn't "move" here, he's always BEEN here...

CORRECTION: he attended West Charlotte High School, not Garringer

a civilized statement doesn't mean it's right.

You seem to think all whites hire based on the best person for the job and I think it's the craziest statement I've ever read in my life.

That simply isn't the case... there are too many examples of incompetence by upper management that shows the good ole boy network still exist. Hiring people you know, like based on a favor or just based on preference still happens. To suggest otherwise is insane.

Now, maybe in your perfect world no one does this because a lot of people claim they could never, ever know someone who would do such a thing.. but since I've seen it happen before I can disagree with your statement.

It's my opinion.. no one said every white guy does this.. .but to suggest it never happens is insane.

Who you know... always trumps what you know... if it didn't there wouldn't be Sororities and Fraternities.

Did you cry racism then? Oh yeah... I forgot? The white cannot do such a thing....lol.

Speaking of W.. how many companies did he run into the ground in Texas? I wonder how he kept moving on up?

Anyways... sorry for the racism rants... just hate to see the Mayor of Charlotte getting hit over the head for something that is going to be good for Charlotte IMO.

I swear people wanted him gone...

people should be happier.

The Congressional Black Caucus told Obama early in the year they wanted to see more Blacks in his cabinet. They followed up with a letter in Feb 2013, that recommended congressman Jim Clyburn (D - SC) for the job. Clyburn didn't get the position, IMO, because he is the 3rd ranking member in the House and close ally of Obama. Obama couldn't afford to lose such a powerful member in the House of Representatives since the GOP controls it now. If he had chosen him, SC would no doubt followed up with another democrat, but the rank would be gone.

IMO, Mel Watt, also rumored to be considered, didn't get it either for the same reasons.

So, IMO, they looked around, saw Anthony Foxx sitting there doing nothing, and decided he would be good for the job. The mayor of CLT has no national significance or for that matter currently even no state significance so Foxx got the job because it doesn't matter who replaces him. Foxx has been a good dog for the Democrats, so it's time to pay him back for his work for the party. Two birds killed with one stone. It's nothing more than this and it's nothing less than this.

Sure, his race played a part, but Obama has to appease the demographic that voted for him at 95%+. He can't afford to lose the support of the Congressional Black Congress given how close votes happen to be in the the congress right now. Is it "racism"? Who cares. It is what it is. It's not like the the GOP doesn't do similar things. Neither party, at the national level, is doing anything for the people these days. Getting worked up over it, misses this bigger point.
