I don't doubt that that has happened, but I was responding directly to the inference that Publix and/or Harris Teeter would somehow contribute to Food Lion's demise in the region. But since you brought it up, Ingles aren't likely to do that either.

Well, I think that the poster makes a valid point. Publix will upset the balance.

Ingles will have no effect in Charlotte because the expansion came to a halt when Bob Ingle died, but it does have an effect to the west. The Dallas Ingles has been pulling out of Gastonia, Cramerton & Belmont.

Now, if Teeter decides to rebuild in Gastonia, it will be a mistake, in my opinion. They said that they were withdrawing from rural areas. They insulted the people in Gastonia & think that they'll go back a year later, just because Publix is coming.
