Just got back from one of my regular visits to Boston and NYC area. I drive on these trips. I want to attest that tons of drivers in both places do not give turn signals or know to stay out of the left lane if not passing. I am not saying that they specifically are bad drivers, I am only saying that drivers are equally all over the country and Charlotte is no different. I made it a point to observe since so many people like to get on the board and imply that Charlotte is somehow different and alone in these violations. In summary, Americans aren't good drivers anywhere.

That's what happens when so many move here from there. They bring their driving habits. I can live with the accent. Just leave the crappy driving at home.

Was thinking about this while in the DC area last week. Pretty laughable how often people complain about Charlotte drivers when they are just as bad if not worse in most other places.

IMO, one of reasons for some of the traffic backups, in addition to having only 2 lanes each way on some of the busiest highways in the area, is that the drivers here are actually too nice. Perfect example is 85 north in the evenings where it goes down to 2 lanes from 4 around the 485 interchange. Several times the two left lanes have been stopped traffic, taking about 15-20 minutes to go 2-3 miles. Meanwhile people just ride up the lanes that are just about to end and have no problem getting in at the last minute, further backing up the people that were in the correct lane to begin with. If some of those people made it harder for the other people to cut in, maybe they'd think twice about doing it. (And please spare the "you're going to get someone killed" routine, I have no problem allowing people to merge in, but it shouldn't be that easy to cut off 100's of cars sitting in traffic, and inching up at 2 MPH isn't going to hurt anyone, unless the person trying to cut in is driving too fast).

I agree - Michigan was rated one of the top 10 states with most miserable drivers. Turn signals, driving in the left lane, it was the same.

The only difference? People don't lay on the horn here when the light turns green, and they usually let you in if traffic is stopped and you are pulling out of a parking lot.

Considering majority of people in Charlotte migrated from somewhere else, wouldn't they bring their bad driving habits with them.
Map: Where Americans Are Moving - Forbes.com

Fuzzing at Charlotte drivers your probably fuzzing to at someone near where you came from.

Then the drivers are the same

I tried to reserve judgment regarding the driving as well. I can unequivocally say that the driving here is equally as bad. Oh well you can't have everything!

You can live with the accent? We don't have the accent. It isn't us that sounds funny. But yea, you have a good point, excluding the accent thing. LOL!
