So these were only places that already had bike lanes that they just painted green? I would think they could probably use some more bike lanes around the city instead of painting the ones they already have green.

no it won't.

But you have to start somewhere. And it has to be a continuing process. I get the feeling it is a lose-lose for folks like you anyway. Whining about "how much that costs", then bemoaning the fact that a half a block gets you nowhere... Like the kids are prone to saying these days: "haters gonna hate".

I never run red lights. It happens even that a car behind me waiting to turn right would wish I did run the light when no one is coming.

Why don't you move over so that car can turn right on red? It's called courtesy.
Absolutely! If I am at a red light in the right lane, I am usually far enough over to the left side of the far right lane so a car can get by me and turn right on the red light if he wants to do that. I can usually move pretty far forward on my bike. Also, if I am riding on a busy narrow road (for example, rt 21 in Huntersville) I will hug the right side of the road letting cars pass me. If a car is too nervous to pass me and I sense traffic is backing up behind me, I will pull over and let the parade go by. (I don't have to do this very often, but I will do it if necessary).

It is simple courtesy as far as I am concerned. At the same time, my number one rule is my personal safety while not putting anyone else in danger, NOT following the letter of the traffic law.

I find that the courtesy is usually reciprocal. When traffic is coming 2 ways, most cars will stay in their lane and use the room I give them to pass. When there is no oncoming traffic, many cars swing wide into the left lane giving me way more room than I need, just to be nice.

There are plenty of a-hole cyclists. But there are also plenty of us who try to get out of the way and not be nuisance. I also drive a car and can appreciate how painful it can be to be stuck behind a guy on a bike 3ft into the travel lane...on the flip side, is a few seconds of inconvenience passing a cyclist really that big of deal..

I will say that I get irritated when I can't pass a cyclist but that doesn't mean much because I get irritated by almost everything.

I give a wide berth when passing and I appreciate when the cyclist stays over far over to where you can pass. The only place in Charlotte where I've noticed big groups of cyclists on the road is out towards the airport. Seems to be a lot of them on Sunday mornings.

The craziest place I have seen someone riding a bike is 74 inbound. They have more guts(?) than I do.

I wondered why your response became a personal attack on me, as if you know a lot about me. Then I read all the other posts about your attitude RE: non-bicyclists.

I question anything that doesn't make sense to me. Sometimes I just don't see the whole picture, and once educated I may alter my opinion. So far that hasn't happened here. A bike lane that is what, a couple hundred feet long? doesn't seem to be very useful. And yes, I care about the cost. Overall government spending is wildly out of control at all levels, especially on tiny things like this that only affect/benefit an infinitesimally small part of the taxpaying base.
