Hello all,

I will thank you in advance for any input. I will be moving to Charlotte in a couple months and am looking for a place/area to live. I have never been to Charlotte and currently live in Chicago. I am a 24 single male that enjoys the nightlife, working out, and the golf. I would like to be close proximity to all 3. I will be working in the Monroe area and want to minimize my commute as much as possible, but love the city feel. From the research I have done it looks like I would like to be in the Uptown/ southwest part of the city. Like I said, I would like to live in the city/urban feel area while still minimizing my commute to work. I would like to be in walking distance to bars and dining. The area would also need to be safe and secure with available parking.

The most I can spend on rent is $1050/ month, so it looks like uptown may be out of the picture. I would preferably want a 1br condo or aparment. Additionally, I would like to live in a young, vibrant complex.

I apologize for my scattered thoughts, I just want to get everything out in the open due to the fact that I have never been. Appreciate all input! Thank you.

Uptown, Dilworth, or Southend.

You've got a problem - your job will be in Monroe, but you want a more "urban" feel with a minimal commute. Ain't gonna happen, sorry!

Here's the reality, Charlotte is a mostly suburban city. Very little about it feels urban except uptown and the neighborhoods surrounding uptown.

The good news is, a commute from the more urban areas of Charlotte into Monroe will be against most traffic, so at least you won't be in the worst of things on that commute.

For the lifestyle you want, look to live in Southend, Chantilly, Elizabeth or Plaza Midwood. You'll have to drive about 25 miles to Monroe, but that's your best option to have the type of living you want.

Your budget is pretty good for those areas. Look at places like Circle at Southend, Elizabeth Square and Eastover Ridge.

Southend is where I live, (25 y/o single male). Circle at Southend to be exact. It's a great location, right on the light rail and the great World of Beer is now open on the ground floor! Dowd YMCA is in walking distance. Leatherman's Driving Range is about 10 minutes south on Tryon and the best city owned course IMO, Renaissance Park is right across the street from that. I go the opposite way up towards Huntersville but I have to imagine your commute would be going against the flow of traffic on Independence, right?
