Certainly not the best news for a Monday. Does anyone know how many of these jobs should come from the Charlotte area?

Rough estimate 1600.

BOA employs about 290,000 people worldwide 30,000 over the next few years so that would be just over 10%
They only employ 15,000 in Charlotte.

Happy Monday ...

Per CO Article: Bank of America will cut 30,000 jobs | CharlotteObserver.com & The Charlotte Observer Newspaper (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/09/12/2602163/bank-of-america-will-cut-30000.html - broken link)

Looks like this will be taking place over the next 2 yrs, and some of the positions will be unfilled opening eliminated. I haven't found anything that indicates to the local impact yet.

is anyone surprised by this? It's like looking at housing prices and getting upset. We knew it was coming. Hopefully it won't be that bad.

The impact on Charlotte is unknown, meaning it could be a positive to Charlotte (not for BOA) if consolidating certain aspects of the business means relocating employees to Charlotte. It could be an across the board 10% impact on the region or worse. At this point, no one knows but the gloom and doom team will be full force.

It's not all dismal, they are still hiring, depending on the sector. I have a telephone interview with them in a few minutes.

I heard on the news last week that the layoffs were coming from branches being shut down, so tellers and whatnot.

The net net here may actually mean more jobs in Charlotte. Not a likely scenario mind you, but we're all guessing here.

Wondering myself as spouse and I are considering a move there and worried that in addition to Charlotte already posting worse than average unemployment numbers, this will flood the market with more college-educated people making it even tougher to find work.

Younger, under 30 something workers who come cheaper than us 50+ guys....
