We want to go biking (with kids). Which park would you recommend? I see that the Anne Close Park (I can't recall the proper name), in SC, charges for bike trail use? I live in Union Cty, so I don't want to travel too far.
Any suggestions? TIA

Only members can bike at AS Close Greenway, and you have to live in York, Chester, or Lancaster to be a member. That being said, they are relatively challenging mountain bike trails not suitable for children.

For excellent paved bike trails, try any of the creek greenways in Mecklenburg on Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation. McMullen Creek is off of Pineville Matthews and seems to be a favorite.

Col Francis Beatty is closer to you and better for kids

Hey there stmaarten - it is Anne Springs Close Greeway in Fort Mill that you are inquiring about. I have not been to the other park you stated but I do know that it would be closer to you.

But should you ever have the desire to check out the Greenway in Fort Mill I would like to clarify the following....

Sorry...groove1 but you have given out incorrect information in regard to the Anne Springs Close Greenway.

You Do Not have to be a member to enjoy all that the Greenway has to offer...nor do you have to live within York, Chester, or Lancaster County. Anyone..anywhere is able to enjoy the Greenway. If one so chooses not to become a member of the Anne Springs Close Greenway there is a slight day use fee to help offset the cost of operating and maintaining the Greenway (there are envelopes within the greenway area that you put your payment in and drop in slot). The only thing that you Can Not Do if your not a member....is fish in the lakes.

When I visited about 3 weeks ago they had signs posted saying you now have to be a member to bicycle.

Hmmm...not sure what signs you saw there?...but just to comfirm what I had stated previously (in case anything had changed recently)..I got in touch with a person I know there. She said that you do not need to be a member to cycle...there is a daily use fee of $3 (as I indicated on my previous post) and you enter the (Cycle) trails behind the Leroy Springs Rec. Complex.

...and now back to your regular programming.

You are correct. I inquired about the fees (Anne Springs Park) myself, and there is a $3 bicycle trail fee. I ended up at the Colonel Francis Beatty Park today. Just lovely! We rented some paddle boats and rode the "easy" bike trail. The kids and I loved it! Thanks for all the input.
