My husband and I are planning to relocate to NC from Wisconsin. We are 40ish with no children at home. My husband can transfer to pretty much any area of the state, but I am an employee of the VA as a certified pharmacy technician, and my choices are limited to either the Salisbury or Durham areas. Not interested in the Fayetteville area.
We currently live in a small town about 30 minutes to Madison and my commute is about 35 miles one way. I don't mind a commute, but HATE bad traffic. We would prefer a "country" feel, as we are not big city people.
Also, good heathcare is a must.
Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated.

One of my neighbors deals with the VA & he prefers the Asheville facility to the Salisbury facility. He has also gone to a facility in Rutherford County for limited purposes.
you can certainly get the country feel in areas around Salisbury...and Salisbury is really centrally located to Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and to Charlotte. I would steer clear of Durham.
There is a VA outpatient clinic in Charlotte that has a pharmacy. The good thing about the clinic is that it has great hours. No holidays, no overnights. It is a nice facility. There are plenty of areas within 20 minutes that fit your criteria. Look outside the 485 loop (Harrisburg area is great place to start.)
I personally wouldn't want to live in Salisbury, nothing about it appeals to me. However, you could live in Mooresville and commute to Salisbury on 150. It's not interstate and I work with several people that do that daily with no major concerns or issues.

Salisbury is definately country. A friend of mine recently shot a movie which most scenes were done in and around Salisbury called Redneck Roots www.redneckroots.com The following trailer may give you a feel for the town
That was too funny, and GROSS! If there is ANY truth to that, NO, NO, NO.
