I have a friend who is African American he has been considered for a teaching position at this school. Does anyone know if he would do well there.
He would be the only African. American along with the gym teacher, and is concerned about this. Any opinions suggestions would be appreciated...
If he is confident that he is a good teacher and the school sees good ability in him as a teacher, well,...he'll do just as good as anyone getting a new job....
It would be awesome to have any diversity in teaching in the Marvin school corridor at large. You are sooooo welcome and will have lots of support from those who are dying for diversity!!!!!
I want my kids to go to a diverse school (I grew up in the NYC school system), so I do hope your friend comes on over to Marvin school! Tell him there's lots of parents that want to see him here for sure!!!
Charlotte, for the most part and from what I've encountered, is a much more "color-blind" city than most. I hope Union will grow to be more diverse as well. I'd LOVE to see more AA teachers (and children) in our schools!
Tell your friend to go for it! If he's a great teacher, more power to him!
my daugher starts there in 2 weeks...i can assure you that race is not something she sees in anyone...we would have no qualms about it at all and as a side note, it's still quite sad that it has to be brought up as an issue....i can say this, with the number of transplants to waxhaw and marvin from the north and south florida, race will be much less an issue as it would if this were the "old south"....
Race is not an issue, if anything, there is more of a North-South issue, than race. And even that is friendly (at least to our faces!)
As they say down here - "Your Fine!"
