Now I know there are a bazillion threads on this, and I just scanned through some of them. We wanted to go somewhere new to us and festive, but not necessarily a "scene." Preferably not a big chain. Would rather it was in the South Charlotte/Ballantyne area, for most efficient use of babysitter time. To help, we have been to and enjoy Cantina 1511, Rooster's, etc. Anyway, I'd love your suggestions of someplace awesome to go. Thanks!!

There's a Cantina 1511 at Stonecrest. Also Firebird's is down there. Ilios Noche is another option. Cosmos is very good. The only non-chain I wouldn't recommend is Big View.

For burgers: Big Daddy's Burger Bar off John J. Delaney

Mexican: Senor Tequila off Rea Road in the same shopping center as Trader Joe's

Ballantyne Village has Villa Antonio's for dinner, and then you can go up to D'Vine Wine on the second level to enjoy music and wine with a nice view. (Could also do Blue Taj, Village Bistro or Jade in BV and have the same experience.)

All great ideas, thanks! I'll keep this list to use for future nights out beyond tomorrow.

Should've listened to y'all. We tried The Tavern on Park, which was in our not-quite-expired Citipass book from last year. The menu (in the book) looked upscale, but not stuffy, and it sounded great.
We walk in, and it's completely a sports bar. Apparently they've switched formats since the 2009 Citipass came out. It's a nice sports bar, I'll give them that, but not what we were expecting. So we had giant goblets of beer ($3!) and bar snacks. We had a great time, too, but it was a bit of a surprise. Will try someplace from the above list next time.
