We are getting ready to sell a 15 year old car, that has no tags, and has not been inspected in a couple of years.

In this case, what does our prospective buyer need to do to get it where it's going? Do we have to have it inspected before we sell it?

Sorry, I've just obviously never done anything like this before.

Any help is appreciated.

In NC when a person buys a car he has a grace period to get it inspected. He should have no problem registering it and getting his tag first. Then he has a certain amount of time to get it inspected. No big deal. The cost is on him and you can sell the car "as is' The buyer should call his insurance company and have it added and then he can drive it home legal even with no tag as long as he can show he just purchased it. Check out the NCDMV website and learn more.
