Hi,

Great discussion board! I've done lots of reading, and now I'm hoping some of the helpful people here can give us some more specific advice. My wife and I are moving back to NC this fall. We used to live in the Triangle, so we're not as familiar with Charlotte. Our price range is $500k to maybe $625. We have a baby and hopefully another soon, so our priorities are short commute to uptown (20 mins or less), great schools, some yard space (doesn't need to be a half acre, but something), and hopefully a little room for our family to grow (say 2,220+ sf). House doesn't need to be renovated to the max -- might prefer a bit more house and then upgrade kitchen, bath, etc. a little later.

We've been searching the obvious candidates -- Meyers Park, Elizabeth, Dilworth (part that goes to Eastover Elementary), and Eastover. Looks like Eastover and MP are basically too much $$ for us, unfortunately, and there aren't a ton of places listed in the others.

Anyway, I'm looking to expand our search a bit. What other areas should we be checking? Should we be looking in the Southpark area? Someone mentioned Foxcroft East - does that sound right? Would setting Fairview Rd. as a southern limit on our search give me a fairly short commute? It's all pretty complicated -- for example, part of Cotswold going to one elementary school, and part to another, and each has very different test scores and parent reviews. Thank you so much for all your help, and we can't wait to be back home in North Carolina!

Did you try Plaza Midwood? I would say maybe NoDa or Wilmore, but I am not sure about the schools there.

Definitely look in Southpark - very good location, easy to get to uptown - just an overall very desirable area. I would also suggest in particular you look at the Bellingrath, Mountainbrook and Beverly Woods subdivisions.

Just a little out of Southpark check out Robinson Woods and Landsdowne. In your price range you will find many nice homes to choose from Let me know what other specific questions I can answer.

P.S. Foxcroft, and even Foxcroft East are way out of your price range now, sorry.

I would suggest Cotswold, Elizabeth, Sherwood Forest, Providence Park, Randolph Park, Randolph Estates, Selwyn Farms. There are a some in Myers Park in your price range, possibly worth a look

You may want to consider going a little further south -- let's say inside 51 -- you will have many more options. Best of luck

I agree. Stay south of the city and you will be happy. Everything else is a toss-up.
