Charleston is in the doldrums - not much happening over the past 20 years other than being named to top misery lists and the like. Perception is 90% of reality. I think a new tower, and no, not the 15 story boxes Charleston and everywhere has a ton of, but a show piece 30 story tower, would add much to the Kanawha Valley. Could downtown support this?, probably with only at least 1/3 being downtown luxury condos, but the payoff could (who knows for sure) be worth it. It's a risky propositoin, no doubt.

Actually, I don't think the Capitol has a blinking light on top of it. However they do keep the dome illuminated at night.
At Yeager, planes take off from a hilltop - even less likely for a plane to hit a downtown building versus large cities with tall buildings in flat areas. That is a non-issue.
No matter what the building looks like (even if it is as bland as this one) it is still good news to hear that a building is being constructed in downtown. This is the first MVB bank in the area, so this will possibly lead to future growth of this company in the KV. Plus the sketch isn't the best quality so the building could be more attractive than the picture would suggest.
Mon Valley Bank is in growth mode. My hunch is they are building in Charleston because the area's housing market is improving, and they hope to process mortgages in that regard. It's a well thought of company here in North Central WV, and I would bet the building they are constructing there will be a nice addition to the community. Hopefully it will be a win-win for the company and for Charleston. We need a lot more win-wins in our state, and I believe it is about time we work together to help that happen.
I do like the design of the bank building and I think it really helps that stretch of downtown look better.
