My wife and I will be looking for a 1400ish 3 bed room home/condo/town home in the $150k to 180k range soon and love mount pleasant. We are really just looking for something 15 to 20 minutes from a nice beach in a safe community. Any pointer on where to look or where not to look? We will probably rent for six months to a year just to be on the safe side but would like to research as much as possible before we leave Michigan.
I lived in an apartment community in Park West (Mount Pleasant) and I loved where I lived!! The community, schools, shopping, distance from the beach, etc. was great! The apartment community where I lived is now selling all of its units starting at $150,000, but Mount Pleasant is the most expensive city in the Charleston area, so you aren't going to get as much house for your money.
If you want to stay under $180,000 in Mt. Pleasant you will generally be limited to a condo, duplex or town home. Two communities that you might want to consider in my opinion would be a duplex in "The Gates of Dunes West" section of Dunes West or a condo/townhome in the Ellington Woods section of Dunes West. (1400 -1600sqft.). Rentals in these communities will be in the $1000 to $1300 price range. You would be about 15 minutes to the beach. Relocatingmother may be referring to condos in The Battery Section of Park West. However, to my knowledge those currently on the market are 2 bedroom units of about 1100 sqft.
