I have some family who may be relocating to North Charleston or Goose Creek or Cottageville or surrounding cities. They asked if I could find out some information for them so can anyone tell me some information on North Charleston and Goose Creek and Cottageville? How are the people... are they nice? How is the areas in these cities and surrounding cities?
I never lived in North Charleston, but I used to drive through it every day for work when I lived in Summerville and worked in Charleston. It is a growing area that is beginning to get nicer as people sprawl away from Charleston. Summerville is also a very nice area and one that I would recommend living in if you are headed to that area (or your family). Cost of living is much cheaper than Charleston, although it is starting to catch up some. Stay away from living on (or close enough to have to drive it every day) Dorchester Rd. The traffic there is miserable during the morning and afternoon commute. All in all, it is a good place to live. I prefer the Upstate (where I live now) but that is merely my opinion. Good luck to your family!
Cottageville is not a city and barely a town. It is located between Summerville and Walterboro. There is a subway, a gas station and a dollar store. That's it. It is also a speed trap. It literally takes about 2 minutes to drive through it and you better do the speed limit. If they plan on working in North Charleston it will be quite a haul from there.
I live in GC. It's a great town, growing with a plan, good utilities, excellent value on new housing, especially when compared to Summerville or Mt. Pleasant.
We have good schools, excellent access to NC and downtown Charleston, fun shopping, good food, and lovely people. There is a good mix of local to newcomers.
We are the closest neighbor to NC and it certainly is easy to get to work from here.
It'll depend on how close you'd like to be to the plant, the beach, the city, etc., and your price range. You could be an urbanite and love living on parts of the Charleston peninsula, or happier in the suburbs of Daniel Island or Mount Pleasant. West Ashley and James Island each have some very nice neighborhoods as well and most of the above would put you well inside 30 minutes to the beaches.
