During peak morning and evening rush hours, would this commute be awful?

Thanks everyone!

You'll hit traffic at the 526/26 interchanges, both ways, both times. It can get ugly.

Would 17 be a better bet into town?

From Daniel Island? You'd still have to jump onto 526 and cross over 26 until it dumped onto 17 (which would then be mixing with everyone else coming from Summerville/North Charleston).

You might be able to bypass a few things by turning off onto Rivers and following that south a bit until you had better access to 26 (or sticking with it all the way into downtown). 526/26 is probably still your best bet, and it's a very quick drive if traffic's light.
