While looking through the MLS for a home there the other day, my kids asked why they didn't have basements. I said, "because of the water.... and they have FROGS". So now, my kids think SC doesn't have basements because of frogs.

Average elevation for Summerville is around 75ft. above sea level.

basements aren't allowed in most homes, not because of sea level but because there are secret tunnels and basements all over the charleston area from the civil war era

francis marion used many of the tunnels that reach all the way out past summerville into the swamp fox area

due to the historic significance of many of things underground here most won't let you dig anywhere near the city

there are exceptions as with some land that was long surveyed etc etc

but there's tunnels underground here large enough to drive a tank through
