Hi my brother is moving to Charleston and is looking for complexes that are under $1,000/month for a one bedroom. Looking for one with a pool, a fitness center, and that is not overly outdated. He is in the Navy so will be commuting to the base in North Charleston. Areas considered are: James Island, Mt. Pleasant, Daniel Island, Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms. Names of complexes to check with would be awesome. Thanks!

There isn't a Navy base in North Charleston anymore....

The nearest on is in Goose Creek at the Weapons Station.....

If he is going there and doesn't want to deal with massive traffic he needs to look at Goose Creek, Hannahan and Summerville.

What Tom said.

There is an Air Force Base in North Charleston but the only true Navy presence is the weapons station which more or less stretches from Goose Creek to Hanahan.

I've known several Navy guys who lived in Coventry Green in Goose Creek and liked it there.

Well that's good to know. I looked at a map and it looked like it was in North Charleston. If it is further up west on 26 then maybe he needs to live out that way. I think he wants to not be too far from going to bars and clubs downtown.

Is the traffic really bad from Mt Pleasant to Goose Creek? You are taking the Mark Clark and not even going through downtown Charleston. James Island now looks like a bad idea. I would have thought the worst traffic would be from Goose Creek, Summerville, etc. east into downtown Charleston). On time off I think he would rather be in Mt Pleasant than Goose Creek.

Mt. Pleasant to Goose Creek during normal rush takes about 45 minutes each way.

Well I think the traffic may be a wake up call to him then. Will let him know how long it takes and advise him that being closer to the weapons station will be a good thing. Coventry Green looked really nice and within the price range. Thanks.

You know, since it's just him, he may want to get an extended stay hotel for a week or 2 and then ask his new coworkers where the best place to live is... he probably wants to live around them anyway... right?

Well he's just out of college and I think he wants to be closer to the bar/dating scene if he has time!

There probably are and he may want to get the lay of the land by staying in an extended stay hotel for a few weeks, seeing how bad traffic is, what his working hours are, where other people live etc!
