I'm moving down to Charleston for July 1st and am currently searching for an apartment or rental home. I would like a large 1br or a 2br.
I've narrowed down my preferred locations to N Charleston (near park circle), Daniel Island, or Mt Pleasant. It seems easy enough to find apartment complexes without a realtor - but what about home/condo rentals? The selection on craigslist is extremely limited for those neighborhoods.
Is this indicative of the lack of condo/house rentals on the market, or should I be looking for a realtor? If I do go with a realtor, what type of fees should I expect? In the Boston area it is often a full months rent (yuck!).
Realtor.com has a rental tab. I heard good things about Miler properties too. Take a look at property management companies in the area. Most have websites with rental listings.
One thing that you do have to be aware of is that the listings are not kept up to date. Personnel experience recently with rentals. Call the agent to make sure that rental is still available.
You do not pay a Realtor, the owner does just like buying. But some Realtors will not take renters out.
I only help people in Mount Pleasant for rentals. The reason it's difficult to find a Realtor to take you is the PM or owner only pass an average of 10% of the rent to the Realtor and ofter than does not cover our gas to show rentals. Most states that I have worked in it is the first months rent.
