OK all please do not laugh too loud when you read this question. Are there any sites where you can get free ringtones for your smart phone?

Your cellphone provider may have a link to such a site.

What I have done with my Verizon Motorola Chocolate is take some wav and mp3 files and copy them onto my phone chip. I can play them as music. Sometimes I can also assign them as ringtone to a contact list item which does not have a ringtone assigned. The tunes then become available as ringtones for anyone. It matters what directory you put them on in your chip. Experiment around.
"what's that sound?"

Download the app called "Zedge". It's got free ringtones and wallpapers.

I have an Android device and use a free application called MP3 Ringtone Maker. I can download songs free and make my own ringtone with it's Ringtone Editor feature.

Be VERY Leary of any free ringtone websites, good source of malware/toolbars/other unwanted items.
