I've read books by George Takei, Nichelle Nichols and James Doohan (three original Star Trek actors) all saying they had problems working with Shatner. Doohan said specifically "I just don't like the man."

There was an ep with the historic kiss between Kirk and Uhura - that scene was originally going to be with Spock and Uhura, but Shatner insisted it be changed to him. Also Nichelle said in her book that some scene in the film series was supposed to be more about other characters but Shatner insisted it focus more on him.

Do you know of any specific incidents that cause people to hate him?

I saw bits of rumors that something happened between him and Doohan's wife - any comment? (James Doohan died in 2005.)

Shatner has a bit of an ego, but guess what, he's an actor, all actors have huge egos, that's why they're actors. They wouldn't have jobs if they didn't know how to sell themselves, you have to be full of yourself a bit if you want to be an actor, it's just the nature of the profession

True. I can't imagine it being an easy world to be a part of. And, highs and lows, they want you, they don't, they do, etc. I think of it being a very hard existence, even for those that "make it."

There was a woman some years ago who used to come into the same convenience store as I did. She worked in the city at one of the networks. I forget what the show was but William Shatner had been a guest and she'd seen him all that week. She described him as a fat old drunk who reeked of booze at 7 a.m.

I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that the man is full of shat (if you know what I mean).
