Just screamed at a neighbor and feel so bad.

I had posted on here the other day about fleas, having them a year, going from hundreds to still 5-10 daily when combing...that I'm desperate to get rid of them.

Well, yesterday was 1 and today is zero so far....soaking in water is doing the trick AND spraying.

My neighbor knocked on the door because she needed to use the phone...I said, "come on in" and I walked to the kitchen to get the phone. When I was coming back I saw her in my living room with a leash and a dog attached. I freaked out! I yelled at her to get that dog out of my house. Then I quickly caught myself and said I had just bombed for fleas and it would kill her dog ...that I would hate for her dog to get sick.

Now, my living room consists of a ceiling, walls, windows, and a subfloor. All the carpet has been ripped up...not one sofa, tv, chair- nothing...absolutely nothing- trying to get rid of fleas...not even curtains.

I feel so bad about my quick outburst but is it normal for a pet owner to take their dog into someone's home without asking?

I think it's rude. My brother used to have a Great Dane and would take the dog every where. He came over to my house with the dog, I had 4 cats at the time. I let the dog in one time, for about 10 minutes. My cats were so stressed and upset I told him the dog has to stay in the backyard. My SIL pouted and stayed in the back yard with the dog. Too bad. I have nothing against dogs but I'm not putting my cats through that stress.

I think it's rude. Not all people are dog lovers. When I had dogs I never did anything like that.

Of course one should ask before bringing a dog into someone's house. I'd have been angry too. It isn't a question of someone being a dog lover, it's common courtesy (which is less and less common). It is quite rude!

I have neighbors who do that too, don't ask me why. NO, its NOT NORMAL. I just don't let them in unless I know them well enough to know how well they maintain their dogs. I can understand how you overreacted though.

I made the mistake of letting in one neighbor once with her little dog --- and then found out her dog was infested with fleas when I picked him up about 30 minutes later!!! It was horrible, they were crawling all over him. It took me weeks to get them off my pets and out of the house. NEVER AGAIN. She's a very nice person and has since improved her care of her dog (I think we shamed her into it) BUT.....

I NEVER take my dog uninvited to anyone's home. I think your neighbor just wasn't thinking. I'm sure if you apologize they will understand completely. (and maybe a doggie toy or treat can go with the apology?)

No it's not normal - it's rude. Would be one thing to show up and say 'hey, could I borrow your phone and do you 'mind' if I bring my dog in' but to just walk in with her animal? What would have been more appropriate would have been to leave her dog at her house, then come over to your place to borrow the phone. You weren't rude - she was and now because you were a 'good neighbor' to let her borrow your phone, you're paying the price by having fleas everywhere. Don't let it upset you - obviously your neighbor is not nearly as courteous as you are. Possibly you're getting fleas in your house 'cause she's not taking proper care of her dog and they're migrating to your house from her dog, so maybe give her a 'make up' gift of Revolution - best stuff on the market for fleas (and other things) and FDA approved. Good luck 'cause I don't envy you having to deal with a million fleas. Ugh.
