Do you think an old cat would be happiest boarding at a stranger's home for a little over a week, or would a kitty prefer staying home and having someone visit them once a day for 1/2 hour?
I already picked an option for my kitty, but wondered if there's a general consensus.
Nope, she will be just fine, especially if she is older. I pet sit, and I specialize in older pets, to keep them home where they are comfortable and familiar. The cats I care for I don't move in with, like I do the dogs. I go 2 times a day to feed and clean the litter box, and of course to get MY "kitty fix". They couldn't care less about me, as cats are known to do.
Nope, cats love it, they are fanatics about having the same environment around them, they do not mind at all the boring and solitude that will come with it, and will take option over being relocated. Excitement via a strange new place, smells, etc, is hell to them. Excitement via moving a cardboard box from one side of the room to the other is heaven to them.
Most all of the cats I've had in my lifetime would rather stay in their own home and get some extra sleep. The only exception would be a outgoing social kitten. A few of my older cats if they had to go to someone else's home would be frightened the whole time they were there.
One if my cats had to stay at my mom's for a week. He barely ate or drank while there. I had to bring to vet when I got back for a saline injection he was so dehydrated.
We have a great petsitter who will come once a day, twice a day, even three times a day. She will play with ours, feed them, notice if they are looking well, water a few plants and turn lights on and off and take in mail unless we've had it held if we are away longer. Given her care of usual household things and her coming often ours are happy to see her.
My husband argues that she'll feel lonesome and bored...
She will enjoy her people free time and might consider letting you back into her good graces once you grovel a bit after your return. Please it is considerable less stress on her to be at home the to have to adjust to new surroundings just to be sent home in a week.

True, true.
