Any main personality differences in male or female cats? (kitten, weight, litter)

I've had four different female cats over the years: one black/white tabby, one gray/white tabby, one orange tabby, and a calico.
For those who have had both genders, are there any main differences in male cats than the females?
Also, right now we just have a 6-year old female (spayed) orange tabby. We'd like to get a second cat. Not sure if we should get an adult male...or a kitten of either gender...to make the quickest adjustment.
Subscribed to see what others have to say. I have 3 male cats, they all get along fine and are all neutered. I question how they would do if I ever brought home a female cat, and how a female cat may behave differently than my male cats.
My experience is there is no significant difference based on the gender. The differences I see revolve around the personality of the individual cat, regardless of gender.
I have had both males and females. Both have been equally affectionate and playful. But the past 20 years I have chosen to have females only. I prefer females because in my experience they tend to have fewer litterbox issues. But that's just my experience and my preference.

I think this is probably an accurate statement overall and in general. Everyone here can probably relate different experiences that are totally contradictory.
That said, my personal experience with having 2 males and 5 females (basically all a year apart in age) was the males got along with each other and with the females (and visa versa), while the 5 females did not get along with each other very well at all. The males were laid back & easy going, and the females were possessive & territorial.
To the OP I would say go with a male just from my own experience. But that may or may be good advice. There's just no hard & fast rule. As Boxus said, it really depends on the cats involved.
I have a female cat and she is about the most affectionate little creature I've ever encountered. That said, I like how big the males can be, sometimes twice the size of some females.

I call my cat a little girl because she is compared to other pets I've had but she's probably about average size for a female. I've seen males with those big heads and bodies that are almost twice her size. Also, lets not confuse size with cats that are overweight.
As far as personality, every cat is born with their own just like people. Some females are more affectionate than males and some males are more affectionate than some females. They are what they are.
