That's what I've been doing. I take the top one third, with the cats using me as a bed, and the dogs, on large shepard who likes sleeping stretched out on his side, get the end. Its best when all the cats are cuddled into this moving warm tangle of fur.
If I do my portion at the end, too, I can get up without disturbing their sleep. My dogs still think they are little tiny pups... not like Gumby who comes up to the waist.
