So my mom asked if she could come here with her 2 cats and ride out Irene. I said it was fine, which it is.

I have 2 cats who have only ever been with each other (and the other cat I lost 2 years ago), but never seen strange cats.

Any ideas on how to make it go smoothly? Should I put my mom's cats in the spare bedroom, let tehm run free, or what? I don't wanna upset my cats in any way.

The spare bedroom, definitely. It will be a lot less stressful for both sets of cats that way. And probably for you and your Mom. Not only will you avoid possible cat fights, her cats will probably feel more secure if their unexpected new environment is a little smaller and more secure.
Hope all goes well, and your Mom's home comes through the storm safely!

I'd keep your Mom's cats with her in the spare room as well. Everyone will be happier. It's not like this is going to be a permanent stay. Best of luck to you both!

Another vote for keeping them separate. It's not like they need to learn to live with one another, so I wouldn't bother with introductions.

I'm glad your mother has a safe place to come to with her beloved cats. Irene is down to a category 1 now, so may not be as horrible as we thought.

Thanks!

I'm hoping everything is okay. I'm more worried about the trees in my yard.
