With me Maila critters include all animals--I love animals--all of them. Since I was a very small child I have rescued animals--birds, squirrels, cats and dogs.........I just love animals. I have just always referred to them as critters!

If I remember right....the boy Jody in the Yearling...called the animals of the Everglades..."Critters".

I think you must use the word the same way we do, as a term of affection!

Yes!
Today was difficult with DH. He kept trying to get up and motioning that he wanted to get out of bed. I explained that I could not even try being here alone. That maybe when the people come from the ALS clinic with the electric wheelchair we will try...but honestly I don't see how it can happen. He can lay down in the wheelchair but getting him to and from the chair would be dangerous for both him me. He had tears streaming from his eyes. It tore my heart out--literally. He wants so badly not to give in to this disease--he has such a strong soul. I've been up since 3am and am so tired--really tired. He just would not go back to sleep this morning. I did everything that needed to be done plus extra things and he just would not relax even after medication. I think he was lonely so even being a bit grumpy I stayed up. Not sure how long I can do this but tonight it will be very early to bed I know that! At least he was awake more today so just maybe he will sleep better tonight.

You must be emotionally and physically exhausted! I wish you had someone there to spell you so you could get a nap in.

I remember when I was a kid....playing canasta with my aunt and mother who were sharing the care of their mother....my Nana. She required 24 hour care and attention....so there were often late night card games going on.

My aunt moved in with us that winter.....they got a hospital bed ... and provide Nana the bedside care she required. Nana was never a demonstrative lady so didn't do much to show gratitude....and when she did....I gather it was toward her favorite daughter....my aunt. Family dynamics around death and dying are so hard.

You are doing a wonderful thing caring for your DH at home--you are all by yourself so none of the camaraderie that my mom and aunt had around the kitchen table.
.......even when you cant lift him and he is impatient with your limitations.....you are his angel....even if he doesn't always realize it.

Haven't posted in a while but have been reading most days. I'm off again in a little while and won't be able to check on everyone until next week, but I'm hoping for good things to happen to everyone, especially those in need (and we all are in some way or the other), so I'm sending up prayers for us all and Cyn I'm hoping that you will have some kind of help before you kill yourself. Not being mean, but know what 24/7 caregiving can do a person. Anyway, I'll be back next Wed to check on things. Bless you all and all those critters. Give Miranda a big hug for me.
