Yes, except for Norilsk. Coworker was just there last year.

This thread is going far from its title.

I am going to write some more.

Vancouver,BC - Bergen,Norway: similar climates, landscapes look alike.

Saskatoon,SK - Donetsk,Ukraine: Cities with mining(theough have different minerals to mine), located on the steppe, ona river, very cold winters, Saskatoon has some Ukrainian influence.

LOL! WOW!
Calgary with Tashkent, Edmonton with Novosibirsk... Truely, I've never been to Siberia or Uzbekistan, but I'd never think in a million years to compare them to Alberta!
I can't wait to hear what you compare Toronto to!

Not to mention that those places are not in Europe. I have better comparisons.

Calgary, AB - Zurich, Switzerland (cities located near the mountains and known for their quality of life)
Edmonton, AB - Stavanger, Norway(major oil-production centers)

These threads are always fun even though many of these comparisons often make me scratch my head.

For example, Edmonton and Stavanger.

Edmonton: oil industry, on flat prairie, continental, freezing cold, snowy, pick-up drivin’, western North American culture, modern architecture

Stavanger: oil industry, amidst mountainous Norwegian fjords, coastal, (relatively) mild, rainy, Volvo-driving, northern European culture, classic Scandinavian (500+ year-old) architecture

That is the closest match. I could have matched Edmontond with Moscow, but I already did that one.
