H ello There!
My family and i was also thing about moving to Vancouver from Brampton but I'm not sure what to do. I'm looking for something different, somewhere that i could enjoy the weather I'm just tired of the this snow. I'm just worried that we wont find any jobs down there and if it's a great place to raise kids.
We're not to big about the nightlife cause we're not big clubbing people, I just want to go somewhere to build a life with my family.
Have a great social life and so on if you understand what you I mean. I've never lived in Toronto in the city cause I just find that its just to busy for me and loud, I don't mind going there and visiting downtown but I can't living there. I'm not where is the best area's in Vancouver to live that's the best for me and my family to.
I'm a Personal Support Worker and my husband is contractor so I guess where we both can find a good job.
Montreal would most definitely be the place for you. Especially since you want an artsy city, architecture and nightlife. All of those things basically scream Montreal lol. You will find lot's of great club's and Bar's in Montreal. Montreal has the most of them. Montreal has the best nightlife out of all 3 cities (Very vibrant downtown with lot's of clubs, etc. The biggest nightlife scene in Canada) There is lot's of history and sights (very European style city with great sights to see) Lot's of great old buildings to see and take pictures of. Lot's of old art around the city. I find it the most exciting city to spend during the summer and the most interesting city. However Vancouver and Toronto are very nice too and there's lot's of things to do there. But Montreal is definitely the best fit for you.
Actually in terms of Artsy cities Toronto has by far the largest creative arts scene in Canada and actually 3rd largest in N.A after NYC and L.A. I read somewhere that there are more Clubs and Bars in Toronto than Montreal which would make sense it is a larger city, but sure nightlife preference is just that a preference so can't slight you for the preference but you might want to research absolute numbers more. I would give classical Architecture to Montreal however it was a more important city than T.O was for a longer period of time historically speaking. Toronto has more pervasive modern architecture and for most people that doesn't seem to count.
If one wants to live in an urban city in Canada - imo the two best choices are Toronto and Montreal.
Hi
I'm looking for some help! I'm planning a move to Canada. But I'm finding it quite difficult to decide between Vancouver and Toronto (or maybe somewhere else!). I suppose if I kind of describe myself and what it is I'm looking for then maybe someone out there could give me some advice!
So, I'm 23 and from Ireland. I'm pretty relaxed and love music. I used to DJ and I now produce some of my own stuff. I love electronic music but also many many other genres. I'll be bringing my equipment and hoping to find a good music scene wherever I go. I love healthy living - food, exercise, beautiful scenery. Love socialising. Wanna meet lovely down to earth people and don't wanna spend all my time hanging out with other Irish people! (I've heard a lot of Irish to go to Vancouver). Not that I have anything against my fellow countrymen, but I dont want to travel halfway across the world just to always hang out with people from home!
I'm coming to Canada alone so I'm also wondering if it's easier/more difficult to meet new people in either city? Which is more expensive? Most FUN?!!!
There's so much I could say and I've probably just confused anyone reading this. But if anyone can make some sense of it and help me out it will be much appreciated
Thanks
Toronto has a pretty strong Irish heritage particularly as a result of the potato famine back in the 1850's in Ireland. Toronto also has a large creative arts scene so it would give you the most bang for your buck in terms of a strong music scene. Its just a much bigger city than Vancouver. Culturally it is the biggest cultural hub in Canada (certainly English Canada) and it has more wide ranging urban things to do ie Museums, Art Galleries, Festivals, Theatre etc. The Nightlife despite what some people will tell you is still very strong particularly west of the DT core.
Vancouver will definitely trump Toronto for scenery and things to do from an outdoor pursuits perspective. Toronto can also get quite a bit more cold than Vancouver in the winter so that is something to consider. Also, as you mentioned and like Toronto there is quite a large Irish expat community in Vancouver.
Economically Toronto is a better choice overall. It is the largest city economy in Canada so you are just going to have more choice of various industries. If GAWC means anything to you Toronto is the only Alpha class global city in Canada so I mention this because it speaks to overall job opportunities. Both cities are pretty expensive however (though not so much compared to Dublin from what I've read) and I agree with another poster that Montreal is probably a cheaper option and is also pretty compelling in terms of being an artsy city that is Fun. Having said that Toronto and Vancouver are in English Canada while Montreal is not which may mean something to you coming from Ireland.
Here are two articles/links about Toronto you might find interesting in particular.
Another thing to consider is travel time and dirct flight availability between Dublin - Toronto and Dublin - Vancouver. Toronto is 4 hours closer to Ireland than Vancouver and Aer Lingus/Air Canada flies to Dublin direct year round. On top of that two other Airlines, WestJet and Air Transat fly seasonally to Dublin direct meaning Toronto/Dublin flights will be much cheaper for you and a lot quicker back and forth than from Vancouver.
Toronto is 3X the size of Vancouver. They are not similar to each other.
I really don't understand these kind of questions - Toronto and Vancouver are simply different animals. It depends on if you like a small city or a big city.
I want to go to Vancouver Canada Most of my Relatives are there i am from Philippines but im working here in Malaysia is there any way for me to go there? What would be the Process?

I disagree. Vancouver is a lot like a smaller Toronto in many ways, and its downtown core is urban enough that it feels like a big city. There's parts of Vancouver that look almost exactly like parts of Toronto.

not alike at all.
Vancouver is a sleepy town even during the weekends, except for a couple of retail street. Toronto for me is quiet enough, Vancouver is on a different level. Even in the context of North America which is not great for vibrant cities Vancouver is nowhere near the top of the list.
I find it silly that people always put Vancouver in the same league as much larger cities such as Toronto, LA, Chicago, Miami, Montreal etc. In terms of urban vibrancy, Vancouver is just a town. It definitely doesn't have a big city feel (except for people from Thunder Bay or Regina maybe).
Last time I took my mother to visit Vancouver, on a Saturday afternoon, it was so quiet and she asked where are they people and if we are indeed in downtown.
Mississauga is more comparable to Vancouver. Nevermind the comparisons to Toronto.
Apples and oranges.
Mississauga actually is 10% more populous than Vancouver.
