This is my first post on this forum. I was wondering when is the best time of the year to visit Yellowknife? I am looking at a time frame when it's not too cold and I can get to see the Northern lights too. I hear march is awesome for the lights but i guess it would be a little too cold.
I live in Edmonton and I plan to fly up there. Would love to hear from everyone.
Late summer, mid-August or thereabouts. There's a sweet spot right before the start of fall where the bugs have virtually disappeared, it's still warm enough to not wear a jacket at night and there's 4 or 5 hours of definite darkness, during which the northern lights come out.
Winter up there is surreal, but it is cold. The lights are definitely best then, though even summertime northern lights at that latitude are far beyond anything you can see down south.
