Greetings.

I am a huge blackhawks fan and I am just starting to see straight after our cup win tonight. I heard several times people say on the radio/TV tonight that they grew up in Canada and that winning the Stanley Cup was a bigger deal to Johnny Toews (and others) than the gold medal was. This really shocked me, I would have thought a gold medal would be a bigger deal.

How do you guys feel?

I'm a Vancouver fan... I stopped watching once the ****hawks won that series lol!

Anyways I would MUCH RATHER win the stanley cup than a gold medal. Its not even close in comparison... I'm sure most in the USA would rather win the super bowl, world series or NBA championship. In Europe I bet many would rather win the the world cup compared to a gold medal.

Interesting. I agree when you put it that way, between having the Bulls win an NBA title vs a Olympic gold, obviously the Bulls titles were sweeter.

The Stanley Cup for sure. That is what all hockey-playing little boys grow up dreaming about.

Olympic hockey gold has only become a prestigious prize in the past 20 years or so in Canada. Before that, for a very long period the Olympic tourney was considered to be a bit of a joke because of the ban on professionals which prevented the best Canadian players from taking part, but allowed the best Soviet players to play because technically they were amateurs as their official employer was the country's army, not a pro hockey club.

Stanley Cup - probably because we watch for months on end, same players year after year, etc.

So yeah, Stanley cup would come first for me - but all the Olympic gold medals (and particularly the hockey ones) were sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet as well!

100+ games of build up over the course of 8 months to win the SCF far outweighs any Olympic gold medal win.

Cup without a doubt.

List me off the 2002 Gold Medal roster...right, you have to look it up.

2002 Stanley Cup can be read right on the trophy. No other prize in sport has the history of the Cup.

The NFL has their silver phallus, NBA their garbage can, and MLB their little flag poles, but they make a new one every year. There is only one* cup, and as a winner you get to hoist it, and have your name on it for posterity.

*yes there is more that one cup if you go to the HHOF, but there is only one that is ever awarded.

lol, I almost feel stupid for even asking now, I guess I was suckered into the coverage this year about "what a big deal it was for Canada to bring home the gold in hockey," as NBC must have said 1000 times over the course of that game and afterwords. And yes, Mikey the Stanley Cup is EASILY the best trophy in sports.

Don't take it the wrong way -- the Olympic gold medal is a very significant achievement that the entire country supported, but the Stanley Cup involves teams which people cheer for from the time they can sit upright in front of the television.
