Hockey is very popular in all regions of Canada and although there are variations on the passion and its dominance, they are fairly minimal.
You have small pockets where it is less popular such as parts of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver where the population is primarily made up of newly-arrived immigrants, but after a generation or so many children of immigrants (even from tropical countries) will develop an interest in hockey.
It takes some time to see a lot of pros show up from these communities but it's not that hard to find examples:
