But do not tell me what I can or cannot do with my own body. If what I do has the potential to directly physically harm someone else, such as driving drunk or high, then arrest me. But there is no reason in hell that I should be worried about being arrested for smoking (or in prohibition days, drinking) in my own house or in areas designated ok by the general public.

Big Business to put people in prison for drug use.

Alright! Instead of moving to Montana to become a Dental Floss tycoon, I can move to CA and become a bong billionaire.
Sorry for being silly, Frank Z we miss you.

I think they are likely correct in that assessment, but the answer for them must be retraining doing something productive, not continuing the drug war so they can draw a paycheck.

I don't think this is true. I guess I live in a high crime city so I don't think the police department arrests you for simply smoking or possessing weed. I'd assume the marijuana smokers you all seem to be, you are lawyers/doctors by day and smoke weed in your own home by night? (had to throw in some sarcasm ) What's the percentage of these people getting arrested? I would say nil. Now if you get popped selling a few pounds today yeah, you might go to the pen. but not if you simply have a dubee.

I hate when people say go after "real" criminals. Currently it's illegal to posess marijuana unless you have a medical card, is it not? Yes, I asked a question I already know the answer to again.

Maybe the police department has a different point of view and perspective on society as a whole because of what they deal with on a day to day basis. I think a police officer sees things differently than we all do especially someone who smokes marijuana for recreation. Maybe that's why they are against legalization. I'll ask a cop next time I get pulled over and will report it to you guys.

I think when people say "Real Criminals" they mean "Violent" Criminals, or those who commit white collar crime that can destroy a person, rather than Prostitutes, Johns, and Drug Users. It's really a waste of money to go after that group.

"Bong billionaire" probably isn't such a stretch, and I mean selling the "lifestyle accessories", not just the "weed".

While shopping a couple weeks ago in the nearby college town, I walked by a huge late-model Prevost motorhome, custom-painted in iridescent green, and virtually covered with stickers and advertising for companies selling various marijuana "paraphernalia". It was parked in front of a local "headshop", and when I inquired about it inside, come to find out it's owned by a company that was started by a local boy, who apparently has made a bunch of money inventing & marketing a popular "vaporizer"!

So obviously there's alot of gold in them thar' hills!

What will be the impact of MJ legalization?

The people will be doped up and even less inclined to notice the screwing they are getting by those in Sacramento. So the politicians will benefit while it's more of the same steady, slow decline for the poor idiots whose only goal in life is a six pack and a place to watch their favorite sports program.

Seeing the benefits of this bill would only take as long as it would take the market to be set up and licensed. People regardless would be able to cultivate in their own homes right away or continue to do so and as we all know, there is already an unlicensed thriving market with plenty of supply to start out with.

Not surprised at all but a little dissapointed that people are still buying into the BS that people can't think for themselves if they choose to drink or smoke, enjoying alcohol or cannabis doesn't prevent anyone from knowing or figuring our what is going on around them politically. That is purely an argument on the discussion of the lack of will people have on an individual basis, to educate themselves on current issues; even if we lived in an age of total prohibition, people would still be willfully oblivious to the issues around them.

What the hell does that have to do with anything, an attempt to dilute the issue with absolute nonsense?
