Me and my cousin are looking to move out to Southern Cal this summer. We are 28 and 30 y/o looking for good night-life and a nice 2BR apartment ($1500-$2000/mnth) in an area where parking is not impossible and where other young adults are. We are moving from NYC and like the ability to take public transportation instead of getting a DWI! I work in the banking industry and will also be going to business school so I would like to be somewhat near a college. I am looking at UCLA and Pepperdine but I have no idea where they are in relation to what we are looking for. Living near the ocean is not a concern but nice weather is. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Have you applied or been accepted to either university?

I have not applied. Seems to be a lot of good business schools in Southern Cal so I am not locked into those 2 schools. I want to get some good recommendations for young adult areas first and than see what decent business schools are near-by. Application deadlines are May/June for fall 2009 semester so I have some time. I am already in school in NYC so I do not think acceptance will be an issue.

Also, am I shorting my options assuming Southern Cal is where I need to be (in California) for decent weather?

All of coastal California from the Bay Area down to San Diego have civilized weather compared to back east. They only vary in amount of rainfall and temperature (although not a huge difference but definitely noticable depending on the city, weather its on the coast or a valley). That being said, San Jose and LA have the same avg precipitation per year and LA is 360 miles south of San Jose. While Santa Cruz has a couple of more inches of rain than San Jose but is only 20 miles west of it. San Jose has similar high temps as LA in the summer, but it cools down 5-7 degrees more than it at nights. Winter temps are also 5-8 degrees cooler on average as well.

Long Beach would be a good city for you with good public transport(as far as california is concerned at least, nothing like NYC here), but would be a drive(or light rail ride) from the top business schools. Cal State Long Beach is good for local stuff, but doesn't have the national recognition of UCLA

Pepperdine is a good business school. My husband was actually paid to get his MBA when he used to work at Boeing and was at a satellite campus in Irvine. I believe the headquarters for the Graziadio School of Business is in west Los Angeles somewhere, not at the campus in Malibu.

UCLA is a good program as well.
