I grew up in Seattle and decided I am sick of the cold weather and rain. I would like to move somewhere in Southern California... not sure where.

I need rent that is in the neighborhood of $3000/month, not a morgtage payment* but a apartment/house available for leasing.

I would also like to be near the ocean.

Has anyone out there lived in any of these areas and if so could you provide insight for a 18 year old make moving south.

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I would recommend Carlsbad or San Diego. You might be able to find employment in San Diego. You can check on www.realtor.com and click on rent to see what houses are for rent in the price range you mentioned. You should be able to find something to rent for less than that right now. Many homes are in foreclosure and the banks are willing to rent for less just to get some money back. Good luck.

Are you seeking locations which are good for sailing?

I am seeking locations that would be good for surfing, within driving distance of good shopping and nightlife.

I work from home so exact location is open, I am moving for my own benefit, not for job relocation

Surfing= Hawaii. That is the best place to surf, if you can afford to live there. The weather is 80 degrees year round. Even when it rains, it is warm there. I lived there for 3 years as a military brat (my dad was Air Force)

I've been to Hawaii several times... Between the different Islands it either seems too desolate, or too touristy. I am hoping to find a fine balance somewhere in Southern California.

Surfing is not my priority, just would be nice to be near a beach, but still within driving distance of shopping/nightlife

San Clemente, Carlsbad, parts of Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Sunset Beach...umm what else...my personal fav. areas would be anywhere from San Clemente and south, but that's just me. If you can, just stay in San Diego county altogether.

I have asked this question in several places, and it always leads back to San Diego. Can someone tell me why everyone likes it so much?
