Closing playgrounds was unnecessary. Young kids need exercise, and Playgrounds are a primary source for activity. It is much safer for children to play on an open air playground than to play inside at other kids' houses, at gyms/ymca (even with precautions), in learning "cohorts", and all other places that have been allowed to open. Also, playgrounds are free. Keeping playgrounds closed is harming already-disadvantaged youth.

Opening them will do far more good than harm.

While children can transmit Covid-19, it is now clear that they do so at a rate far reduced from adults. The recent cdc study of childcare facilities showed adult index cases infecting 5 to 12 people. Subsequent infected children only infected 0 to 1 people in close quarters family contact situations. Child-child transmission from casual outdoor playground contact is very unlikely.

Furthermore, it has been shown that the primary method of transmission is airborne and not via formites on surfaces.

Finally, affluent communities are already flaunting playground closures, and have been for some time, with no increase in the spread of the virus.

Therefore, it is time to reopen all playgrounds with signage encouraging mask wearing and social distancing--especially for older children and adults.

It is time to let kids be kids: of course there is the worry of little ones touching everything followed by more kids touching everything, but outside, it appears the virus does not spread as fast and yes, kids have to have fresh air and activities to keep them healthy and keep mommy and daddy sane. Here in our state closing the playgrounds was left to each city to decide and I think they are all now open.

How about look up the definition of class and consider who's lives are at stake which is the immune compromised and elderly people. Also take note, normal healthy adults are also dying. Please dont spread information like this. Children are very unhygienic and touch everything. You want your children to get exercise, take time out of your life and do yoga and meditation with them. Stretching the limbs especially, will help they grow taller at an earlier rate. Do us a favor and stay away from the public.

Wac, didn't you say that you took your family out of the country? What are the guidelines for playground use where you live now?

Yet back in June they say the disease is highly unlikely to be spread via contact points. I guess that’s all to make radical environmentalists happy as they are angry that health advisors were causing a large surge in terms of single use waste tooting as the disease spreads via conduct in forms of gloves and wipes and reintroducing free bags in stores which they fought hard for years to force a charge on or ban. Nowadays they insist stores go back to charge for bags but now they are forbidden to touch any bags brought back into the store in including the store’s paper or thick plastic bags thus now you actually pay if you want the courtesy clerk’s bagging service at checkout, ridiculous right. Yet many other contact points are either severely regulated or banned. Not just playground, but Including even lost and founds and playgrounds.

Yes lots and lots of hypocrisy.

Though regarding playgrounds I am noticing most closures since summer vacation are taken with a grain of salt by families and not enforced. At least where I am today. Though usually only one family at a time on the jungle gym.

Where are playgrounds even closed? Not around here for many, many months.

Family is still there, at least until schools reopen. I'm back for work.

Everything is open there. Kids run downstairs and play in the park down around the corner every morning, and whenever we had a few minutes of down time. It is glorious. They are getting so much more and better exercise/school/life.

Flying back here with the smoke and everything shut down was like returning to a brown dystopian nightmare.

Sorry I meant contact not conduct.

I meant swimming pools not playgrounds after lost and found. Nowadays lost items are treated as biohazard waste. Seem to violate the statue regarding distinguishing between lost vs abandonment.

Apparently corporate and governments are caving into radical environmentalists plead to continue the war against single use products which they criticized that the pandemic initially put a dent to it, by encouraging mass use of plastic gloves and cleaning wipes and widespread banning of bag fees and forbidding the reusing of used bags in stores and markets which was mostly reversed in July. Yet even today other contact points are still restricted Ie cash is still prohibited in quite a number of areas. Stores are pressured to allow reusable bags to enter again, (banned from March to June either at the corporate level or government level) but forbidden from helping customers pack them. Hypocrisies all over.

Thus if contact is really a non issue cash should be allowed everywhere, swimming pools should be open all day allowing cash and lost and found, courtesy baggers should be allowed to pack used bags too, not to mention playgrounds should open again.

Same here. Maybe some have the playground equipment roped off, but not really stopping anyone from using it. Others, it's business as usual. I don't even know the current status but if they were supposed to be closed, it's been a long time since they actually were.

I agree. Elderly and immunocompromised should continue to stay off playgrounds and away from the rest of the public, especially children.

Yoga and meditation may be sufficient for the elderly, but not for children. Kids need a lot of high energy athletic play, including climbing, swinging (monkey bars) and other upper body exercise from play structures.
