I have never visited California but have a relative who moved to southern California and loves it. Granted, she moved from a place with harsh winters. But surely weather is not the only thing transplants like about the place. I keep reading about the exodus from California and the gripes many natives express about how the lifestyle has changed for the worst over time, but it would be interesting to hear a different perspective.

Are you a transplant (from another US state) who really enjoys California and plans on staying ? Now that you have been living there, what do you love about California and what are the positives that make your move worth it retrospectively ?

Uncle Sam moved me to California from Minnesota ... in the mid-1960s. I’ve been thinking lately about staying. Place has kinda started growing on me.

Yes! And I’m a Republican lol

Born and raised in Kentucky, moved to south Orange County two years ago and plan to NEVER leave.

Great weather, great people... I love it!!

You have to be very affluent, or your experience will not be the same. I recommend accumulating wealth in a low cost of living state before moving out here (Like my wife and I did for 10+ years) and you will be in good shape.

You only have to be affluent if you want to live in LA, Sf Bay area or certain other coastal areas. Otherwise no

I'm expecting big growth not an exodus.
See, california isn't going to be as devastated as a lot of other states because of this virus(diversified economy, yada yada). I think there will be a lot of nevadans, etc moving to California in the near future. I don't like it cause the entire state is already feeling strained, but It's going to happen.
The exodus will be put on hold for now.

Thanks to those who posted.

I should have mentioned that my relative moved there on a salary somewhere between 70K and 80K and was having the time of her life (still is apparently). She also found a nice 1 bedroom in a good neighboorhood for $1300. That was in 2015. This made me question the negative narrative ? As I said I have no first hand experience with California, but for example my chilhood friend was saying that I would regret it if I moved there.

Really you need to go to California and experience it yourself. You may love it, hate it, maybe in the middle. California is as varied as peoples opinions are about it. Don't listen to us-we all have bias and preferences different from you, go find out about it for yourself.
