When you drove to the state line, did you stop at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park? It’s about 50 miles north of Eureka.

I know you said you didn’t want to go north, but, IMO, the redwoods and other areas at Prairie Creek, like Fern Canyon, are SO much more beautiful than Avenue of the Giants and the Lost Coast. All of those places are beautiful, BTW, but, Prairie Creek is the crown jewel. If you take the Brown Creek Trail (very easy walk), you will feel like you’re in heaven...the size and beauty of those redwoods, omg...

Thanks for this recommendation. No one's ever mentioned that one, before. I'll add it to my "to see" list.

The redwood forests at Jedediah Smith State Park (northeast of Crescent City) are great too.
No coastline there, though... but a beautiful river.

Jedidiah Smith gets a lot of recommendations.

Ahhh.... so many redwood parks, so little time!

Thanks all for the comments. I am in Eureka staying the night.

I visited Utikah, Ferndale, Eureka, Arcata, Trinidad.

All but Eureka, are small cities, I liked the breakfast restaurant in Utikah, the atmosphere of Arcata, and the sea view from Trinidad.

Nothing to do in Ferndale, in my opinion.

And of course, the avenue of the giants, cool place!

Thanks for all the comments.

Which restaurant in Ukiah was good?
Ferndale has some nice Victorian-style buildings. It's several blocks and that's about all.

I don't remember the name of the restaurant in Ukiah, but it was a usual all day dining style.

The trip was worth the time. BTW, you guys should also see Chandelier Tree in Legget! I've been there today, entering $10 per vehicle.

Ferndale wasn't worth it. Other cities do have Victorian style buildings as well.

Also don't forget to visit Ramon coffee shop in Eureka!

That would be Ramone's. They have a couple spots in Eureka with locations in Arcata and McKinleyville too. My favorite is on Harrison near the hospital.
